I extend my warmest congratulations to the distinguished winners of the Quality
Building Award (QBA) 2024. Your remarkable achievements and valuable
contributions to the construction industry have set a benchmark for exceptional
expertise and professionalism. Since its inauguration in 2002, the biennial QBA has
served as a beacon of recognition, honouring excellence and innovation in the field.
I would also like to express my appreciation to the nine professional institutions,
organising committee, judges, and sponsors for making the event possible.

The theme of QBA 2024 “Empowering Innovation | Sustaining Green | Generating
Wellness” perfectly aligns with the Government’s commitment to promoting wider
adoption of innovative technologies and eco-friendly solutions that foster a smart
and sustainable built environment. To further promote green buildings, the
Government has enhanced the Gross Floor Area (GFA) concession mechanism for
private development projects under which achieving a specific rating under BEAM
Plus would be the pre-requisite for granting GFA concession. The Government is
also taking steps to prepare the industry for the full adoption of Building Information
Modelling in submissions of building plans by 2029, so as to promote more efficient
building design, as well as greater effectiveness in construction and asset
management. The Government will continue to promote building technology such
as Modular Integrated Construction.

With concerted efforts of the Government and the industry, we will together uphold
the highest standards of professionalism and quality building in Hong Kong. We
eagerly look forward to seeing more innovative, green and high quality buildings in
the years to come.
