The biennial Quality Building Award (QBA) recognises outstanding building-related
development and project teams committed to designing and constructing quality
buildings and a livable built environment for the community. The theme for QBA 2024 is
“Empowering Innovation | Sustaining Green | Generating Wellness.” Recent
advancements in technologies such as MiC (Modular Integrated Construction), BIM
(Building Information Modeling), DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly), MiMEP
(Modular Integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), and IoT (Internet of Things)
have contributed to a smarter construction industry in Hong Kong. Additionally, there is
a growing awareness of sustainable development to promote wellness within both the
construction industry and the general public.

As a juror for QBA 2024, I had the honor of participating in the final judging process. This
involved reviewing written submissions from all finalists, visiting project sites, and
attending presentation sessions. The project teams impressed me with their smart,
innovative, and sustainable initiatives, achieved despite site-specific challenges, time
constraints, and budget considerations. They also prioritised designs that facilitate
smart and sustainable management and maintenance throughout the project life
cycles. Notably, the “Building in GBA” category was introduced for the first time,
showcasing remarkable building projects that foster collaboration between Hong Kong
and the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

On behalf of The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, I extend my congratulations to all the
winners of the awarded projects. Lastly, I wish the upcoming Quality Building Award
2026 every success.
