On June 7th and 8th, the 35 finalist projects of QBA 2024 delivered their outstanding presentations. These projects, embodying the wisdom and hard work of their teams, have set benchmarks in building innovation and green development while playing an important role in enhancing social well-being. They not only represent remarkable achievements in the field of architecture but also embody forward-thinking and significant contributions to the future development of society.

Thanks to the impressive performances of all the shortlisted projects and the dedication of the jury members, we eagerly anticipate the award ceremony this September. Let’s come together to celebrate the joy and glory of the winning teams!

The second phase of QBA 2024 made a successful end. After site visits and film reviews, total 35 projects have been selected for the final round of the award in eight categories. These projects will deliver the presentation to jury panel cum conference on 7-8 June. We look forward to know which of these projects make it to the final round to win the award!

Quality Building Award 2024 Unveils Finalist List
The list of finalists is now available here. The finalists will conduct presentation in front of the Jury Panel on 7 – 8 June 2024.


27-28 April 2024

On 27-28 April, QBA 2024 jury panel took the site visit to the Hong Kong architectural projects that have been selected from the first round of judging, which will follow different routes and be conducted concurrently in Hong Kong. The site visit will cover projects in the following entry categories (1-5) :

Category 1: Hong Kong Residential (Single Building)
Category 2: Hong Kong Residential (Multiple Buildings)
Category 3: Hong Kong Non-Residential (New Building - Government, Institution or Community)
Category 4: Hong Kong Non-Residential (New Building – Non- Government, Institution or Community)
Category 5: Hong Kong Building (Renovation / Revitalization)

Through this site visit, the jury panel further increased their understanding of the design concepts and actual results of the project. Stay tune for the announcement of the final list!

20-21 April 2024

The QBA 2024 jury panel has successfully completed site visit to eligible projects in the Building in GBA (Not include Hong Kong) category on 20-21 April. Detailed inspections were conducted on nominated projects in the cities of Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan etc. In-depth discussions were held with project representatives, meticulously assessing them against the QBA 2024 judging criteria. The QBA 2024 Pre-award Seminar 4 had a perfect end on 5 February. This seminar focused on “Heritage Buildings: Sustainable Adaptive Reuse for Social Inclusion and Economic Viability”. We shared the experience of sustainable renovation of urban heritage buildings and emphasise the importance of sustainable development for architectural conservation and economic and social development.

We are honoured to have Mr Jackey Chan, Planning and Design General Manager of Urban Renewal Authority and Anna (YAU Wai-Yu), the Architectural heritage conservationist and UNESCO intangible cultural heritage convention facilitator to join this seminar and share their insights.

The QBA 2024 Pre-award Seminar 3 had a perfect end on 31 January. This seminar focused on「 Exploring Community Development for Social Inclusion and Wellness」That inspired participants to incorporate similar strategies into their urban development projects, promoting social inclusivity and generating a sense of wellness within communities.

QBA 2024 Seminar 2 was successfully held at the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) on 15 December 2023, with the theme "Creating Sustainable and Resilient Cities: Integrating ESG Principles in Buildings.” Focusing on different building types, the seminar explored the integration of ESG principles into urban planning and development and led the industry to focus on the issue of sustainable development.

We are honoured to have Mr Michael YAM, representative of Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH) project, Mr Jeff TUNG, representative of Victoria Dockside project, Mr Robert SENG, representative of Wetland Seasons Park project, and Ir CS HO, Chairman of Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, share their insights.

The QBA 2024 (Greater Bay Area) Briefing Session took place on 13 December at the Pearl River Hall Conference Room, located in the Guangdong Hotel, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province.
 
The event was attended by Mr LIANG Jian Ming, the President of Guangdong Construction Industry Association and members of Jury Panel, Mr Daniel SHUM, the Chairman of QBA 2024 Organizing Committee, and Ir Barry Sin Wing Ning, the Chairman of Jury Sub-committee.  They delivered speeches during the session, providing attendees with additional information regarding the theme, categories, and judging criteria of QBA 2024. Furthermore, the list of Hon Patron and Advisors and Judging Panel were introduced, and participants were reminded of the nomination's opening and closing dates.

With the theme "Building the Future: Innovation and Collaboration in Building Technology", the first QBA 2024 Seminar was successfully held on 4 December. The seminar focused on sharing the trend of innovative technology application in construction projects and the experience of past QBA award-winning projects.

We were honoured to have construction industry experts, Mr Steven Y. K. LEUNG, Assistant Project Manager of Hip Hing Engineering Co., Ltd. (Member of NWS Holdings); Sr Vincent HO, MH, JP Managing Director of FreeVision Limited; Ir Dr Conrad WONG, BBS, JP, Managing Director of Yau Lee Construction Co., Ltd.; Mr Alex HO, Director of Industry Development, Construction Industry Council and Mr Jeff TUNG, Member of REDA and Head of Special Projects – Project Management, New World Development Company, to participate in the seminar and showcase the success stories of past winners and highlight their outstanding achievements in utilizing innovative technologies, particularly Modular Integrated Construction (MiC).
